Cricket World Cup 2023: Before the semifinal, the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai witnessed an added layer of glamour as iconic figures from cricket and football converged. Virat Kohli played football with David Beckham at Wankhede Stadium. The two sports stars, Kohli and Beckham, engaged in a friendly football session, exchanging passes and indulging in light dribbling on the pitch. Additionally, Beckham interacted with Indian players before the toss for the IND v NZ semifinal.
Attending the match as a UNICEF ambassador, Beckham expressed his excitement at the prospect of India reaching the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, stating that it would be a spectacular achievement.
“I think India will win today (against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final match) and then in the next match we will see. But if India goes through then the (World Cup) final will be pretty spectacular. I am excited because I can already feel the energy here in Mumbai,” Beckham told PTI.
Meanwhile, India posted 397 for 4 in the first innings on the back of centuries by Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.
Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record by hitting his 50th ODI ton after Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got India off to a flying start.
India posted the highest-ever total in knockout matches in the history of ODI World Cups against New Zealand in Mumbai.
